Tapping into Federal COVID-19 Relief Funding & Medicaid to Support Schools and the Wellbeing of Students

Healthy Schools Campaign partnered with Council of Chief State School Officers, National Center for School Mental Health, and other organizations from the Collaborative for Student Success to promote leveraging Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds as an important way to build the capacity of state and local education agencies to support wellbeing in schools.
This handout incorporates input from state education agency staff to expand upon and consolidate information from the 2021 resource RESTART & RECOVERY: Leveraging Federal COVID Relief Funding & Medicaid to Support Student & Staff Wellbeing & Connection. It includes guidance about how states can utilize federal relief funding to expand school Medicaid to support student mental health, including recommendations for coordination across agencies.
