These 10 policy actions can help states comprehensively expand their school Medicaid program and maximize Medicaid reimbursement for school districts. The more steps a state takes, the more it can fully leverage funding to increase access to more school health services for more students.
The actions align with school Medicaid guidance published in 2023 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Each action is explained in detail and supported by federal guidance and other resources.
